Baldwin City officeBaldwin City, located south of Lawrence, is a small university town with wonderful tree-lined streets and a rich pre-Civil War history. It boasts more than 60 historic points of interest including the Midland Railway's "Trip to Nowhere," the Ivan Boyd Prairie Reserve and the Clarice L. Osborne Memorial Chapel. A very popular annual event in Baldwin City is the Maple Leaf Festival. It's a wonderful small-town celebration of autumn that draws thousands of visitors.

Baldwin City is also home to Baker University, the first university in Kansas. The small liberal arts university was founded by Methodist ministers in the Kansas Territory of 1858. Baker is consistently ranked by national magazines as one of the top private liberal arts universities in the region. Four Rhodes Scholars and two Pulitzer Prize winners have attended Baker.
